Oink

Yesterday’s post was heavy… important, but heavy.
If you made it through the film, here’s a nice, light, fluffy picture to cheer you…

One Of Those Days…

Today started out well… we were on track to a varied and interesting learning day.
We’ve been getting a bit bogged down in bookwork, so today I thought we’d do some different things, and go back to the workbooks tomorrow.
That plan soon descended into meltdown, and we spent half the morning in a difficult, but ultimately profitable, discussion on heart attitudes and what is really important.
I think we’ve all got a bit of cabin fever at the moment, which doesn’t help… and it’s still raining…
All in all, my lovely plans took a left turn πŸ˜€ We got some of the work done, and did some other work… then decided to just get out of the house for a bit …

Some days, you just need ice-cream…

:)

Of course, the Doctor would win, hands down…

HANDS DOWN, I TELL YOU!!!

*ahem*

moving on…..

(edited – 2 years later – to add..
Now that I’ve seen more of “Sherlock”, I can understand how it could be more of an even match. I’ll still choose the Doctor, though.
Sorry.)

The Grumpies Go Adventuring…

There was nothing to do
There was not much to say
The Grumpies were grumping
On this dark, wet, wet day.

Then Grumpy Mum leapt
To the doorway, and through
“Let us go to the shops-
Get up, Grump One and Two!”

So they trailed through the drizzle
To the Centre nearby
And with nary a grizzle
Came upon – Market Day!

There were sights, sounds and prizes
At the suburban Fair
Blessings of all sizes
For the Grumpies to share…

First they lined up for burgers
Free at Mos-burgers’ beginning
With buns made of rice,
Tender beef – they were winning!

Old friends were sighted
Waved “Hello, How’d-ye-do!”
As littlest Grump
Enjoyed the petting zoo.

And last but not least
There was a free raffle
The Grumps got their tickets
To see what they could snaffle.

On the last of the spins
Big Grump won a treasure –
The pink, nesting boxes didn’t thrill him,
But the chocolate gave him pleasure!

And so, they walked home,
Tumbled through their front door..
Still a wet, dreary day,
But Grumpy no more!
The End

I respect Dr Seuss
Sometimes, to find rhymes
You must use words abstruse!

Dreams and Teapots

As I was looking around the shops today, I saw this little trinket –

πŸ˜€

Pinks and purples, and little elephants shaped like teapots! (At least they look like that to me…)
How have your dreams looked today?

Gnome Warfare – The Sequel

Today I did a mini tour of my suburb, checking out the terrain for rogue gnomes (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s my previous post…)
For more detailed information, go to this site.

I walked along the back streets, thinking that these gardens would be ideal hideouts – a lot of the houses are old, and could have been adapted over many years for the coming gnome occupation. To my surprise, I did not seeΒ any gnomes.

Not a one.

At least in the wild.

Imagine my horror, having been encouraged by the dearth of gnomes, to unsuspectingly wander into a shop, and be confronted by THIS!

Don’t be fooled by their pleasant exterior, people.
They’re tricksy, these gnomes..

This one is obviously contemplating some form of kidnap/torture! What is the world coming to, when these creatures can be openly displayed, on low shelves where our children can reach them!?

Lock your doors.
Bar your windows.
The invasion is coming.

Thoughts…

… on death.

Not to get too maudlin or anything…

I was reading a magazine (a health/exercise one, strangely enough) and came across an article about “green” burials. I occasionally think about (my) death, and the ramifications of it… I don’t fear death itself (I know where I’m going πŸ˜€ ) but I’m not looking forward to the actualΒ process of dying. I figure there’s not much I can do about that, though, so I just have to stop stressing and leave that bit up to God…

I’ve never really wanted an elaborate funeral, so the green type of funerals appeal to me. My Mum is going to have a cardboard coffin (white) which we will apparently be able to decorate in any way we choose, when the time comes. I’d be happy to be buried under the nearest tree, but I suppose there’d be all sorts of health and safety issues. And the neighbours might complain…
I think, though, that I’ll be past caring what happens to the shell by the time my spirit has left it.

I’ll probably go for the cardboard coffin when it comes down to it… but here are the options in the magazine –

1- Resomation – Scotland. Alkaline hydrolysis, where the body is liquified in a special pressurised chamber, then used as fertiliser.

2- Promessa Organic – Sweden. Body is frozen in liquid nitrogen, then vibrated to break down into powder, then purified and buried. Can be used as compost within a year.

3- Eternal Reefs – U.S.A. This one I disliked at first glance, but now I can see the attraction in it.. The body is encased in a ball of concrete, then lowered into a coral reef to support the existing reef structure. It will encourage the growth of more coral and microorganisms.

Having said all that, I’d like to say that I’m not planning on having to use any of these methods in the near future..
Do you know of any other possibilities out there?

Interim Status..

Yesterday we went to the beach.

Today I had planned to download the photos – we went to see the sand sculptures at Surfers Paradise.

Unfortunately, we also got sunburned, and I am still feeling the effects… my shoulders and legs were burned – the backs of my knees are bright red and swollen – how does that even happen?!? Thankfully the boys were wearing rash vests and long shorts, so apart from some sunburn on their faces, they’ve pretty much escaped. Hubby and I resemble the Lobster People… I think the combined glow at our place last night could have guided home small aircraft…

Tomorrow I should be feeling better, and able to wrangle the photos out of my camera. Till then, here’s another Five Minute Getaway… enjoy! πŸ˜€

Gnome Warfare

Today I am having a bit of a wander around town… sort of a Christmas/birthday/Valentine’s treat. I’m at the library at the moment, where there’s a sausage sizzle/concerty thing in process for the launch of the Year of Reading. I’ll chill out in the metropolis of Ipswich soon… right now, I’ve been choosing books. I’ve got some great books on crafts/inspiration, and a massive coffee table sized book about women travellers (1850-1950)-subtitled “A Century of Trailblazing Adventures”.

… and I will also be reading “How to Survive a Garden Gnome Attack” (first sentence -“Keep reading if you want to live”). Who knew it was such a pressing problem in suburbia? No wonder the tools in the toolbox always seem to have been disturbed… and is my knife drawer strangely depleted? Topics include “Passive Fortification” – how to build a moat, or how to make quicksand,Β and “Your Arsenal”. Flamethrowers and landmines are not recommended….

Please make sure you keep yourselves informed of this growing threat. I won’t be able to enjoy my day out if I’m worried about you all 😦
