Catching The Corpses Breathing

I’ve managed to pack a fair amount of boxes in the last few days. Mostly books, a few trinkets… books are easier – they’re mostly some form of rectangle, so they can fit in any type of box.
When I finish for the day, I like to just watch stuff, settle down a bit for the evening. Lately I’ve been catching up on a bit of CSI. I don’t really like horror, or even actiony/thriller type things, but I love a bit of forensics 🙂
The only thing is, I’m watching the earliest seasons. One of the fun things is catching the supposed corpses breathing, or showing other signs of life. Some are quite obviously breathing, and I’ve caught a few eye twitches. I can only suppose that later seasons will refine the non-breathing technique!

When you think about it, all TV shows are artificial. They’re all actors acting – making us believe that what we see is what is there. We get so caught up in the story that it’s a bit jarring to see a corpse breathe. It snaps us out of the narrative, and can make the scene seem absurd.

Life’s a bit like that.
We’re wandering (galloping?) along, thinking what we see is real, and then the corpse breathes, and we’re looking from outside at absurdity.
Where we are now (as in moving again) has been a bit of a snap back to reality, where our plans can sometimes veer off at the last minute.
Good thing there’s still breathing!

Still, I can appreciate a bit of absurdity. The boys have shown me a few AI song mashups, and YouTube has given me a few to watch…
I’m not sure if you’ve ever wanted to hear Johnny Cash “sing” Barbie Girl?
Here it is anyway…

I listened to that one, and YouTube seemed to think I would also enjoy this –

They were right.

Well, I’m off to check out some forensics. It’ll probably be more comprehensible than the clips above.

There are random boxes everywhere at the moment, but my clay sculpture (John) continues to look cool and ready for anything 🙂

Getting The Lowdown

One of the threads I follow in my internet wanderings is “reaction” videos, where people watch YouTube clips and react to them. Often these are classic songs that they haven’t heard before, but can also be comedy or other genres of music.
I spent a bit of time watching reactions to Johnny Cash, which led to this song – a cover of “Ring Of Fire” by an a capella group called Home Free, featuring Avi Kaplan, who was the bass for Pentatonix (because why settle for one bass when you can have two?)
I don’t really have a particular reason for posting this.
It’s just – Such Fun!

Hear The Bells

Here’s a carol I don’t really know well – I came across it recently in a reading. It’s based on a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, written in a time of war and loss.
This world, right now, is not a peaceful world – even though some of us live in relative peace. There’s always turmoil if you look.

Isaiah wrote about a hope of peace, in a time of turmoil…

The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light.
For those who lived in a land of deep shadows—
    light! sunbursts of light!
You repopulated the nation,
    you expanded its joy.
Oh, they’re so glad in your presence!
    Festival joy!
The joy of a great celebration,
sharing rich gifts and warm greetings.
The abuse of oppressors and cruelty of tyrants—
all their whips and cudgels and curses—
Is gone, done away with, a deliverance
as surprising and sudden as Gideon’s old victory over Midian.
The boots of all those invading troops,
along with their shirts soaked with innocent blood,
Will be piled in a heap and burned,
a fire that will burn for days!
For a child has been born—for us!
the gift of a son—for us!
He’ll take over
    the running of the world.
His names will be: Amazing Counselor,
    Strong God,
Eternal Father,
    Prince of Wholeness.
His ruling authority will grow,
and there’ll be no limits to the wholeness he brings.
He’ll rule from the historic David throne
    over that promised kingdom.
He’ll put that kingdom on a firm footing
    and keep it going
With fair dealing and right living,
    beginning now and lasting always.
The zeal of God-of-the-Angel-Armies
    will do all this.
(Isaiah 9:2-7)

That’s the Hope we celebrate at Christmas.
We may still be waiting to see the final outcome of that Hope…
but we can still remember –
The Prince of Peace has come!
