Silver Lining

…without a cloud in the sky!

Sunday just gone was our 25th Wedding Anniversary – I have now spent half my life married ❤ That seems like a dramatic statement! I am very happy that we have come this far – here’s to the next 25 years!
Our boys are old enough to look after themselves, so we decided to have a long weekend in Caloundra. We stayed in a three bedroom unit, but it was still compact enough for us. The balcony looked out onto the beach, and it was only a short walk to the sand.
The main street was close, so we took in the markets on Sunday morning, and went to Kawana Waters Farmers Markets on Saturday morning to pick up good food for the weekend. We also got to say hi to an old friend as well as getting some great hand made (gluten free) sausages… if you’re in the market for quality sausages (and are on the Sunshine Coast) you can’t get better than Saintsational Sausages! 😀
Hearing the sea so close was good for peaceful sleep. The weather was bright and mild.

Our first sunset there…

Caloundra seems quiet and sleepy, especially in term time. We could just meander, and still feel like we got a lot done. There were bits of artwork dotted about the main part of the town as well, like sparkly gems waiting to be discovered…

King’s Beach was lovely, and not too busy even on the weekends, but we also had a walk along Shelley Beach, picking up shells and looking at the wildlife in the rock pools.

The sea was the most beautiful blue, and there were tiny fish and crabs, as well as bigger crabs, sidling along under rocks…

The weekend was meant to be a chance to spend time together, and we did that. It was also a chance to share good, quality food – whether crisp chips or gelato by the sea, or rich picnic food on the balcony.

Sunday’s breakfast – free range eggs, oyster mushrooms fried in butter, avocado on olive, feta and rosemary sourdough bread, and Saintsational sausages (chicken, lime, coriander, mango and coconut). We indulged in proper full cream milk (there was actual cream on top!) and the juice is “Energy” juice from the markets – based on beetroot juice, with additions such as ginger and celery… There were stops at various cafes for good coffee, finishing with Greenhouse Cafe on the Monday morning before coming home.

Lemon Curd gluten free doughnut 🙂

Such a lovely weekend! We were sad to say goodbye, but happy to be headed home…

We had a good run home, and blitzed the unpacking/washing when we got back.
What more can I say?

Back To The Everyday

We’re back from holiday – actually, we’ve been back since last Wednesday, but various things have prevented me from posting…
School’s back, and we’re settling in to everyday life again.

We went to Caloundra for ten days – it’s quiet (and a lot cheaper) when the schools go back. We were quite close to the beach – here’s the view from our verandah –

Here’s the view inside the unit –

(The bedding is ours)
The place was nice – there were some little issues, but the view was gorgeous, the location was good, and we really enjoyed that sofa!
Every breakfast time was spent looking at the sea. There were some huge mugs to set the mood…

…Biggest Boy colour coded his breakfast.

Healthwise I had some days where I couldn’t leave the unit, but by the time my birthday came around I was coping, and we went to Maleny for the day. By the time our ten days was nearly over I was able to go down and walk along the beach, and I’ve been feeling quite energetic since we got back!
I treated myself to a haircut for my birthday, so it’s quite short now. Takes some getting used to! I spent most evenings on the verandah, listening to music and the sea. I was also able to watch the sunrise on one of the mornings –

So calming, and so easy to spend time in prayer.
We had time to recharge, but it was great to come home – ready for a fresh year…

I was given some roses at church yesterday, for my birthday – here they are!

Back In The Swing

It’s been two weeks since we’ve been back off holidays – seems a lot longer…
We went to Caloundra for two weeks – beach, markets and quiet times together. Caught up with some friends, walked a bit more than I normally would, mostly just general unwinding. It’s a lot less expensive in the off season (when school goes back), so we’ve been trying to manage a getaway each year. It might seem like a waste of money, and it requires doing without during the year, but we find the school year starts off better when we can reset and recharge…
Glad we weren’t on the coast last week, with the weather being so bad. There were still days of rain and wind, but they were a good opportunity to take a quiet day. The photos below were taken on a very windy day, when the windsurfers were out in force – they even sailed through the air on occasion!

Our two weeks back have been mostly calm and we’re working well.
It should be a good year!
