The Sun Shares Its Warmth Again

I don’t know what winter thinks it’s doing.

We started with cold, shivery mornings. Some still are, but mostly it’s been that lovely crisp chill that’s energising but not too cold.
I’m not complaining 🙂
There’s been rain as well, and then everything seems grey and somehow colder. It’s good to catch the sunshine when it peeks out from behind the clouds…

I’ve been organising.
We finally got the boxes out from under the stairs, and I’ve rediscovered things I forgot that I had. I’ve unpacked the last cardboard box from upstairs, so the rooms feel a bit more finished, even if there’s still a lot more to do! I spent this afternoon finding homes for my CDs, while playing some I haven’t heard in a while. That, obviously, led to sorting my (upstairs) books. I’ve spent a lovely afternoon pottering about between various shelves, trying to make sense out of it all 😆

…and through it all, the sun has been shining.
It’s been a good temperature to go for a walk down the street, or just lean on the railings and watch the world go by.
Sometimes I get caught up in the day and only notice it’s getting late when I see the sun setting outside my coloured glass windows.

Then I can settle again into my beautiful home, and reflect on the sun, and the warmth in my life.

Hang Ups

My “art room” is looking a lot less cluttered this week.
I’ve finally unpacked some containers, moved some things around, hung some bits and pieces up…

Some of the packages haven’t seen the light of day for quite a while. There are canvases that I’ve had for decades, and some that are a fair bit newer. There are various reasons why I haven’t hung them up before, but one is that they aren’t really too great, in my eyes. But – they exist. And they’re not terrible 😆 I hope to get some more work done – get some of the images out of my head and onto a canvas, or piece of paper.
I have a certain fondness for my older work, even if I can still see the flaws!

A bit of a mixture – the two on the right aren’t as old as the purple peopley one on the left. That’s from 1986 – my first year of art college. It’s been hung on many different walls and travelled round the world with me 🙂

This one is also from the last decade or so.
It’s bigger than the others, and the hooks I have available are tiny, so it’ll stay here. I have framed prints from college, but they are too heavy for the hooks – lots of glass and framing.

I also found a lovely photo of our family from years ago. It’s sharing space with some paintings I bought while backpacking around Europe in 1994, and a beautiful textile print made by a friend.

I haven’t found a place to safely put this mirror – the hooks wouldn’t hold it, and I wouldn’t want the glass to smash on our uncarpeted floors. At the moment it’s just reflecting a gauzy, curtain-y dreamscape.

There’s still work to do.
I’ll just have to get over my hang ups, so I have more things to…hang up! 😀

Stronger Than Fear

Seems it’s been a while since I was here last.
I’ve probably got things to say – just haven’t formulated them in my head yet!
It’s late, here.
Should I be in bed?
Yes.
Should I be reminding myself of the truth below?
Also yes! 🙂

Now, time to sleep, and breathe for another day.
I hope the air is pure and invigorating in your life!

Thinking Of Thankfulness

Mothers’ Day again!
My sweet boys are a lot older than the kids in this video, but I’m still thankful every day to be their Mum.
They’re still the funny, weird, wonderful beans they always were.

Like Nobody Else

Just a fun little interlude for you 🙂
This was done sometime during quarantine, presumably to help cheer people up (also as a fundraiser to help musicians who were unable to make a living without live performances).
I haven’t listened to a lot of Voiceplay, but this one turns up on my YouTube suggestions every so often. It’s a collaboration with a lot of different people (and includes a cameo by my favourite bass…)

Singing can be beneficial for your health – even if you don’t think you’re any good at it! Your voice, and the way you relate to music, is unique to you.
Apart from that, it’s just fun 😀
So pick a song. Any song.
And just sing!

Happy Feet

The days are sliding into winter, in fits and starts.
Mornings have been freezing, but I’ve got the fan on now (with my feet under the duvet…)
This last week or two we’ve been not too well. Not sure why – probably some seasonal virus – but we’ve only been lurching about when we needed to. The boys had most of this week off work, and my Babe went in to uni when it was unavoidable. Otherwise, there was a lot of resting going on!
I did my cleaning last week, but had to stop and rest from time to time. Today I have been feeling better, and have had an exciting day. I did my cleaning (vacuuming, mopping, toilet and basins), put a wash on, did the dishes and unpacked some of my trinkets into my new glass display cases!

If you had told younger me that I would be so happy about doing housework, young me would not have believed you 😆
It’s the “doing OK” feeling that’s a novelty. I do also like things to be clean…

I feel I’ve been enjoying the house more, as well. I leave our door onto the verandah open all day to let the air in, but I like to go out onto the verandah when it’s dark, before I close the door for the night. I just lean on the balustrade and spend some time surveying my domain 😀
A couple of days ago I settled into the big armchair in the lounge, to read and have my lunch. Eventually I decided to drag the chair to the doorway and let my feet get some sunlight.

I enjoyed the warmth, and my feet were happy.

The various bushes around the house are a riot of colour at the moment, from this Geisha Girl shrub,

to the various coloured bougainvillea.

My feet are happy.
So is the rest of me!

Back Online!

We’re back to our “proper” internet connection – yay!
It’s been somewhere over a month since all this started, but hopefully we’ll be ok now. Still not sure what’s been going on with the connection…
We were given a temporary modem (and then another one), so that’s kept us going. I’ve never used so much phone data before – even had a 2GB warning! The modems worked, but are not too good – there have been some things we haven’t been able to do in the last month. I’ve had to be careful with watching catch up TV as well – that seems to use a lot.

It’s been nice to have the rain the last two days. This house seems built to enhance cosiness in wet weather 🙂
I’ve been watching the new episodes of Midsomer Murders, and indulging in catching up with other random shows – we can’t seem to get free to air TV here, so even with internet back on, there’s nothing for Fetch to record…

I’ve also been watching a lot of YouTube. Home Free just did this song – it came out last weekend.

I love all their songs, but this is one I remember from childhood.
This was the first song on the first cassette tape that I bought with my own pocket money, way back sometime in the 70s. It was a “Country Greatest Hits” type album – I think it also had Dolly Parton singing “I Will Always Love You”.
…a bit of nostalgia to herald in the colder, wetter days!

Sofa…So Good

😆
We got our sofa earlier this week, so the lounge room is now comfortable for when people come for a visit.
Still problems with the internet, and no word on whether we can stay after the lease is up.
I still feel a sense of belonging here, though. I’ve sorted out a corner on the top verandah, where I can sit with coffee and a book. We just got a couple of coffee tables this morning, and I’m getting into a rhythm of cleaning, washing, and dishwashing.
Here’s the new sofa.

The sun shines through in the afternoon, turning the room into a sort of Australian version of a Dutch interior painting.

Fancy a cuppa?
We are…at home!
🙂

Enter The Clear Cold Air

I’m enjoying the change to Autumny-Winter.
There’s something about this time of year, when the air is fresh and approaching cold, and there’s a breath of ages past if you stop to feel it. It could be that I’m feeling that a bit more this year, since this house carries with it a history that I don’t yet know. This week I’ll settle for a peaceful coffee and a book on the front verandah…

We still don’t know what’s happening after our lease ends. Our internet is still out – I’m using a temporary dongle/modem (choose your preferred name 😆 ) at the moment, which we’ve been given as a temporary fix. It works, but only if we all sit around it in the same room. Otherwise there’s no signal.
I have decided to enjoy the time we know we have here, and extend that enjoyment through to any extra time we get 🙂
Unpacking and organising was stopped for a bit while we tried to find out our status, but we’ve started to get furniture again. I’ve finally sorted out the plants.

Let’s see how many survive 😆

We’ve finally got a lounge chair…

…and a sofa will be added to it when we pick it up on Tuesday.

I treated myself to a cute ceramic bunny.

He serves no purpose, except to bring me joy 🙂

I have found that I’m starting to feel better since the move. I did my part of the cleaning today – not an amazing achievement for most, but I’ve spent a fair amount of time getting less and less able to do the easiest things. I even enjoyed washing the dishes!
We’re getting used to the clothes washing schedules – with four adults in the house, we have to have assigned days.
One of my chairs has its own decorative cover.

…but that’s only because it’s a hand wash item, and I keep forgetting to wash it!

We’ve sailed through our first inspection, and we’re getting used to the weird bits of the house.
As the cold air intensifies over the next few months, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to get clarity about our place here.
And to learn to enjoy the serendipities – whether big or small.
Like a bougainvillea flower, brought in on a windy day, gracing our old floor tiles with a splash of colour.
