Balance

100_1970
Nearly the end of another Sunday…
I’ve been trying to balance my study time with my rest-of-life time. It’s not too bad, but if I’m not careful, I end up reading/taking notes pretty much every waking moment – which are more than they should be, because I stay up longer. I haven’t studied for many years, so I’m still finding my parameters..

One thing I’ve decided is that I’m taking Sundays off. It’s hard to switch my brain off.. but I’ve managed.. except I’ve been finding I seem to be working just as hard to “relax”! When there’s only one day to fit the leisure stuff in, it seems to go too quickly.. it even feels like a waste of time to sleep, even when I’m so tired it’s hard to focus..

It’ll get better. I’ll find my balance. I’ll probably even go to bed soonish πŸ˜€
.. and pretty soon I’ll find a rhythm that encompasses everything that’s necessary..

Quilled Paper Anatomy

Wow! This could make studies more interesting…

I can’t imagine the time this would take… it takes me long enough to write out notes!

New School Year

My boys went “back to school” last week, but it was a bit of a fractured week.. I thought I’d take this as their real first week back, and post a “first day of school” photo..

The Birthday Girl Reflects..

I’ve had a lovely day… out to lunch with hubby, cake and icecream later with family and a friend who dropped round… feeling loved πŸ˜€

I was woken up this morning with pressies from my boys..

πŸ˜€

My Mum came over to babysit while we went out to Fasta Pasta for Fettucine Mona Lisa, and gave me two cupcake holders…

100_6202

Now I’ll have to make some cupcakes! (I’ve just seen a recipe for chocolate cupcakes with buttercream icing..)

Out for lunch, dropped in to the Lifeline store in Jacaranda St.. got a footrest – tried to post a picture, but my computer won’t let me..

A friend came round yesterday to bring me a cake she’d made me.. a sort of upside down banana caramel cake.. yum!

(I was planning to insert another photo here.. can’t 😦 )

… and another lovely friend dropped round to help us eat it..

I’ve still had study to do, but I’ve taken it easy today… more to do the rest of the week, but I wanted to enjoy my birthday.

On this day last year, we were moving out of our old house, on the start of our journey through homelessness/couchsurfing, back to a lovely house and a new year of possibilities..
It’s been a bit of a year..
We learned a lot – about ourselves, about our family.. friends.. about the faithfulness of God toward us. We were unsure of what was ahead, we were sometimes in discomfort… but never alone, and never in despair..
We found out who our friends were – and we learned, or rediscovered, that there are people out there who really do live out their lives in God’s way, with His heart.. quietly “being Christian” because that’s who they are, not for accolades or rewards. I don’t use proper names on this blog, so I won’t name them… but you should know who you are πŸ˜€ – thanks for inspiring us to live well, with compassion and love!

It’s been a year… I wouldn’t change it for anything..

I went to the Brisbane Lifeline Bookfest yesterday, and picked up a backpack full of books… there’s still time to make it there for a look (although the rain might dampen things a bit..)

There’s something wonderful about reading a good book on a rainy day, with a cup of coffee by your side…

God’s Anatomy & Physiology Lessons

I’ve been trying to cram a lot of technical language into my head lately, which has resulted in me muttering things like “proximal/distal… medial/lateral…cephalic/caudal… INTEGUMENTARY!!” at odd moments. There always seems to be more to figure out..
I’m learning about the body, how it fits together, how it functions..

*not an accurate representation of the human body*

I spent a while writing out notes… and then took a bit of time to read my Bible reading for the day..

It was Corinthians 12:12-27 πŸ˜€ , which starts off Β –

“You can easily enough see how this kind of thing works by looking no further than your own body. Your body has

many partsβ€”limbs, organs, cellsβ€”but no matter how many parts you can name, you’re still one body. It’s exactly the

same with Christ. ..”

If you want to read more, click here

It’s something to think about… I’ve always understood the analogy – it’s pretty obvious – but my studies so far have

added another level… our bodies exist in homeostasis, an internal environment that must be kept within narrow limits

for good health… variations, even if they are not recognised for some time, can lead to disease and eventually death..

Each part of the body plays some role in keeping that “steady state” – no part is less important than another. The “more

presentable” parts need the “less presentable” – they can’t survive without each other. Each part is precisely formed and

set in place to do the job it’s meant to do…

Have you ever looked around at others in your part of the body of Christ and wondered what they’re doing there? I don’t

think many of us would verbalise that to ourselves… but do weΒ actΒ as though that’s what we think? We all have a

purpose and plan… and we won’t survive without each other!

January Musings

Just been thinking about the blog… I meant it to be a mixture of things, but it certainly hasn’t been as erudite as I’d hoped – all my amazing thoughts seem to happen when I’m not in front of the computer, and are nowhere in evidence when I am πŸ˜€ It’s more fun to be distracted by the pretty and cute..

Kitten! πŸ˜€

Where was I?

This won’t be a scholarly work, either… I’ve been sick in bed since Tuesday and this is the first day I’ve been up and about to any extent (which basically means internet and TV – I’m watching the Sarah Jane Chronicles at the moment..)

It’s been a bad week to be running a temperature, and I’m a bit sick of the same four walls… although one of those walls consists of sliding, full length mirrors – not a plus when you’re ill..

In honour of a change of scene, here are some snowy landscapes to enjoy..

Family

We’ve just had a lovely weekend (plus two days πŸ˜€ ) catching up with our nephew, who’s over here from the U.K. He’s been travelling round Australia for a while so was able to drop in on us… it’s been great catching up (as well as getting a little homesick! )

100_6179

Can you tell they’re all related? πŸ˜€

We reminisced, talked about family… generally just spent time together..
There comes a time, when you’ve been travelling, when you just want something familiar, and a bit of home comfort… hopefully we’ve been able to provide that..

Happy travels, to Byron Bay and beyond!
(and come back to visit some time πŸ˜€ )

Starting Down The Study Road

New year, new direction… I’ve started looking at my study subjects – my brain is starting to hurt πŸ˜€

Went to Centrelink to apply for Austudy – a stress inducing activity 😦

Here’s a photo of all my books –
100_5943
Yayy!!!!!! πŸ˜€

I’ll be doing it online, with the option of taking some actual classes each semester. I haven’t done formal study for over 20 years, so it’s all a bit daunting… I feel like my brain has to stretch a bit to fit in the extra information, and I don’t even remember doing the referencing/bibliographies for essays last time. Last time was a diploma of Art, in the late 80s…my assignments were hand written on bits of foolscap… I’ll even have to figure out how to format the assignments properly so they’ll be accepted!
Nevertheless, I’m excited πŸ˜€ So far, I’ve tackled the first lessons for Chemistry, and Anatomy and Physiology… not sure I’ve grasped all the important facts yet..
My subjects for this semester are –
Chemistry
Anatomy and Physiology 1
Naturopathic Philosophy
Herbal Medicine 1
Iridology
Flower Essences

Looking forward to it πŸ˜€
Roll on 2013!
