Delight

I have been reading about the concept of delight lately. It’s a good word. The basic meaning just refers to taking great joy in something, but I feel it is also a pure, uncomplicated joy – a flash, felt in the moment, lifting the heart. There are many delightful things in the world, although we can become so caught up in the worries and cares of life that we forget to notice.
What have I delighted in lately? My boys are always delightful πŸ™‚ The changing weather we’ve had recently has also brought flashes of delight – whether cooling, driving rain, or a sudden shaft of sunlight.
I find flowers delightful, especially the small, shy ones that peek through the leaves.

It helps if they smell sweet as well!

What else?
A baby’s smile. A butterfly alighting in an unlikely place. A new song that sweetens the heart. This tiny one –

Sweet little ball of cuteness πŸ™‚

Then there’s these –

Angel Delight

That’s Fry’s Turkish Delight at the bottom.
Slight misuse of the word (it’s used for commercial purposes), but both have been comfort foods for me in the past, so I’ll include them…

How do we let ourselves be so overtaken by the unimportant things? I think I would rather catch the moments of transport, even if it looks like I’m wasting time.
May life delight you today! ❀

Out Of The Dark

We had a blackout this afternoon/evening, for about five hours – on into the darkness, when we lit tealights and “played” Trivial Pursuit.

IMG_2307

The boys’ idea of playing involves them asking us questions one after the other from the cards, and having a good laugh over some of the answers… I’m OK with Entertainment, Art and Literature, History, and Science and Nature, but I’m a bit less certain with Geography, and especially Sport and Leisure. I think I did well overall, though.
We giggled by candlelight for half the evening, then the power came on and we went back to normal programming…
It was nice while it lasted! πŸ˜€

A Breath And A Pause

Lots of rain lately. Here’s some purple flowers to brighten things up a bit.

IMG_2265_1

Yesterday I finished one block of hours needed for my course (basic work experience – in this case in a health food store.) It was fun, and it feels good to be working my way forward. The bulk of the hours remainΒ  to be done and things need to fall in to place a bit more… still, it was a chance to mini-celebrate – to have a coffee and enjoy completing something!

Groovy!

IMG_2260

πŸ˜€

Feeling all hippie and back-to-the-earth today…
In part, that’s because of the eventual plastic bag ban here. The shop has started stocking paper bags (for 50c) which you can choose rather than plastic.

IMG_2258

Like this!
There was a time before plastic when all groceries were bagged like this…
Usually I have various cloth bags rolled up in my handbag, but I washed those recently and forgot to put them back. Here’s all our purchases – also in paper.

IMG_2259

It was an opportunity to rethink plastic dependence.
And also to stock up on sauerkraut. ❀

Another Year, Another Coffee

It’s my birthday today! Yayyy! I am 7 in dog years today πŸ˜€
Went to Rafter and RoseΒ for breakfast this morning with Hubby – we were pretty much the first ones there, so had our pick of the tables.

The board outside…

The other side of the board – not my sentiments this morning. I love everybody today!

Sat in the corner, with a good view of the empty early morning streets.

The cake/muffin selection above was amazing – we got some to take home, but opted for a breakfast. This was one portion, but we shared.

My mocha…

The design was either a swan or the Sorting Hat.Tasted gorgeous.
We ate and chatted, and I revelled in being able to go out and enjoy a meal without incident. The music was a selection of 80s music, which made me feel young… Started eating with the Eurythmics and finished with this –

Yes, I did sing along…

Here’s some more random interiors from the cafe.

Back In The Swing

The school year has started, and everything seems a bit more focused now – no more lazy days reading and relaxing. It’s taken me a lot longer than I expected to get back in the swing of things.
Sweet Bean is doing well so far – two days in and all is calm.
The holidays have flown by so fast! It was good while it lasted, though.
Hubby and I went to the launch of a new ice-cream parlour last week. It was a sort of “goodbye” to holidays, as well as the chance to try out some gorgeous flavours. It’s called Ungermann Brothers Ice-Cream Parlour. The place is decorated like it’s theΒ  50s – the servers wear lovely red and white polka dot dresses, and there’s black and white tile on the floor and a juke box in the corner.

IMG_2148

The menu is interesting… I can’t see myself getting a cone of roasted garlic ice-cream, although I would like to try it.

We chose a lavender and honeycomb in a gluten free cone for me, and a dark chocolate and mandarin cone for hubby. The flavours were quite strong, but good.

IMG_2146

Yum! πŸ™‚

In our previous forays into cafes during the holidays I came across a quote that seemed apposite for this year.

IMG_2114

I don’t know what’s going to happen this year. I have deadlines that will only be met if I go out and make something happen… I have the good company already, and good food and coffee will follow.
Now to step out and appreciate this life!

And The Sun Sets On Another Year…

IMG_2080

In Memoriam (Ring Out, Wild Bells)
Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809 – 1892)

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
Β Β Β The flying cloud, the frosty light:
Β Β Β The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Β Β Β Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
Β Β Β The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Ring out the grief that saps the mind
Β Β Β For those that here we see no more;
Β Β Β Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.

Ring out a slowly dying cause,
Β Β Β And ancient forms of party strife;
Β Β Β Ring in the nobler modes of life,
With sweeter manners, purer laws.

Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
Β Β Β The faithless coldness of the times;
Β Β Β Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes
But ring the fuller minstrel in.

Ring out false pride in place and blood,
Β Β Β The civic slander and the spite;
Β Β Β Ring in the love of truth and right,
Ring in the common love of good.

Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Β Β Β Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Β Β Β Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.

Ring in the valiant man and free,
Β Β Β The larger heart, the kindlier hand;
Β Β Β Ring out the darkness of the land,
Ring in the Christ that is to be.

Getting There…

On the home stretch to Christmas, and stuff to do before I can sit back and chill for a week… there’s been a lot of end of year deadlines to complete. Sweetest Bean has finished the school year, and done so well – I’m so proud of him! ❀ We went to the art gallery last Friday before the awards for school. This was Sweet Bean’s Lego creation (it ran well, too)

IMG_2039

Here he is receiving his awards –

IMG_2061

He’s off camping with friends at the moment, having a great time.

IMG_2069

Miss him, but glad he’s having fun!

Hubby is working now (yayy!!), which is wonderful, although he’ll be working over Christmas. We have had blessings coming already. One of those is a prize I won, which just came in the mail today. It’s a sample pack of natural perfumes – this is how it came, and the goodies inside…

IMG_2071

IMG_20721

IMG_2073

They are supposed to evoke certain qualities – I was both beautiful and intuitive today πŸ˜€

I am very tired right now, but quietly hopeful of getting it all sorted by Christmas.
Let the countdown begin!
