Legs Ahoy! (The Sequel)

Cleaned out the tadpole habitat again….

….once we could see through the murk, we found one with all its legs, and one just missing one (with the other on its way) Most of the rest are very close…

froglet πŸ˜€

We finished cleaning, watched them for a while, then turned our back for a couple of minutes…..

Hello, world!

Facing the giant.

In other news…

The beans are doing well.

Hard to see, but they’re there.

Nice big leaves… the marigolds are growing well, too.

The biggest of the beans so far – looking forward to it curling round the tepee branch.

The biggest of the marigolds, showing its secondary leaves.

Lovely rain today, as well! πŸ˜€

Tepee Beans and Garden Things…

Our beans have sprung into life. Yesterday there was one popped up… unfortunately that had disappeared by this morning (birds?). This morning there was another one up…

Still clinging to its shell…

By this afternoon there were a few more, unfurling through the dirt. What I thought funny was that they come up, and there’s dirt flung aside, like they punch through the earth, and the earth just has to give way πŸ˜€

emerging….

We planted the marigolds at the same time, and they have been springing up in their own time…

on its way….

What else is going on in the garden? Lots of things are growing… Lots of things are flowering and seeding. Summer gives way to autumn, and the landscape changes… Things grow… things die…

tarragon flowers

abundant chillies

I think these are mother-in-law’s tongue… soaking up the sun.

We think this is an avocado tree… it’s been run over (with a mower, as well as by little feet), and we thought it would die… it’s come back, leafy and green, but it’s not growing any higher… we’ll see…

There’s not much of this green lavender left – it looks more like this –

It has its own kind of dignity.

beautiful…

lovely shape, and shadow…

Looking forward to what will grow through the seasons… edible as well as beautiful, healthy for the body and soul…

Legs Ahoy!

It has been brought to my attention that it is illegal to move frog spawn or tadpoles from their original location…. which means that I am – *gasp* – a frog smuggler!!!

I considered not posting the tadpoles anymore, but then I thought…. why not? We already have them… if we’re arrested, so be it…

So, moving on… the tadpoles now have back legs! yayy!! They look cute :D. Here’s some photos….

Here’s more of a close-up…

Nice, clean container again….

Thought I’d post some photos of some of my plants, as they’re sort of projects, and the tepee “update” as well…

Still growing. The rocket is not “rocketing” much, though..

The coriander is getting it’s proper leaves.

Nope – nothing happening here.

My rosemary has flowered! I don’t think it’s ever done that before. There’s only two flowers..

The pumpkin vine appears to be happy. I made a lovely soup from the last one we got from it.

Baby pumpkin! With a cute little hat! πŸ˜€

Tune in next time, for the continuing saga – “A pumpkin grows in Ipswich” …

A Tepee and Beans….

…and marigolds.

Today we put together a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a while…. we built a tepee, and planted beans around the sticks, so they can climb up…

Pretty! πŸ˜€

These are the beans – they eventually become “blue climbing” beans…Β just right for a healthy snack after a hard day’s play!

The cleared ground.

The tepee – should be big enough for both of them (if they don’t move around too much πŸ˜€ )

Little boy planting beans..

Big boy planting marigolds (companion plant – good for pest control)

A family project…

Little boy watering πŸ˜€

The last photos make it look as if we were planting in the dead of night… it’s just that it was getting closer to dusk (5.30ish), and the light wasn’t good enough; I had to use the flash…

They’re supposed to start sprouting in a few days, and will hopefully be edible sometime at the start of winter…

Woohoo!

I now have a washing machine!!! And it works!!!!

As you can probably tell, this is very exciting for me πŸ˜‰

I haven’t had a washing machine since before the floods…. lots of arm exercise for me lately πŸ˜€ …Β Now, I can put the clothes in, push a few buttons… and, in a little while, get lovely, clean, fresh clothes!

It’s like magic…..

Where have I been ???

Not here, obviously πŸ˜€

Well, we’ve finally done some sprouting and planting, so I’m feeling a glow of achievement…

We did one round of Β sprouting last week – red Caloona peas, mung beans and lentils. We soaked the Caloona peas (which I’d never heard of before then…) but not the others… the peas flourished, the mung beans eventually sprouted, and the lentils did as well, but smelled fermented and had to be thrown out. This time around I soaked everything. This is the next day and I think the peas and beans are nearly ready for eating. The lentils are still dodgy though…

Yesterday we did origami newspaper seedling pots. The boys both had a go, and did well. Biggest boy’s pots were pretty much perfect by the time he’d finished. We planted – lychees, plums, blueberries and cherries.
We had black hands after (from the newspaper), and got a bit dirty from the soil, but, all in all, a good morning. πŸ˜€ Here’s a link to the method –

new year….

Thought I’d try this theme for a bit, till I figure out how to personalise things….

wanting to do something with this year – more creating, more simplifying…

wanting to get more “green” – a few things to look at this year –

sprouting

cloth pads

home made bras

home made vegie bags

bulk cooking/freezing

vegie garden/fruit

reusage of all sorts

the list will probably go on….. πŸ˜€
