Hear Us Roar!

It was International Women’s Day yesterday, and I was reminded of this song…

I didn’t spend any time with other women yesterday, although I talked with Sweet Bean about women in history, and globally today.
Today I went to a breakfast for the Women’s Ministry at church, where we talked together, heard inspirational stories, and gained strength in worship.

This afternoon I caught up with some great friends who I haven’t seen enough of recently. We talked, and laughed, and ate black forest scones…

I am happy when I’m alone – I like my own company. But we are made for community, and women are generally quite good at that. Together we can bring healing, encouragement, and inspiration. And yes – we can roar!

And we can do all that in the context of beauty 😀

Cool Being Me

Last week of the term, and Sweet Bean finished his English tasks a while back… this week is mopping up the leftovers of other subjects in preparation for starting fresh next term. The English unit was based on “Soul Surfer”, the story of Bethany Hamilton. They looked at songs and poems, stories of inspirational people, and courage and determination…
One of the songs was this one…

It was used to reiterate the theme of Bethany’s catchphrase, “I’m cool being me!”
I haven’t yet seen the actual movie, but look forward to doing so.

And another! These were actually shown to me before we saw the song lyrics in the English unit, by a friend who had to share them because she thought they were so good 😀

Tell A Better Story

The clock is ticking down on my studies, and I feel the pressure of getting finished when I still don’t have a supervisor in place. Makes it hard to remember what I was excited about when I first started the course…
Then I came across this song, and it reminded me of what I want to bring to the world – to add beauty to lives, and help people to see their story in a better light.
I still don’t know how my story will unfold, and still feel I won’t get to the finish of this section, but the core motivation remains 🙂

When Morning Comes

I have had frequent bouts of “not feeling good” lately – nothing major, but wearing. Some days are OK, some are not, and some are very much not. Saturday was horrible, so yesterday was a recovery day.
…but – today! Today was lovely! I wasn’t leaping about or running marathons, but I’ve had three meals today and been able to do lessons with the boys as well as other work. I’ve even been able to walk to the letterbox and back – twice! – today. Comfortably watching Antiques Roadshow at the moment, with butterscotch mousse. Nice! 🙂

Yesterday at church we sang “Great is Thy Faithfulness” – haven’t sung that for a while, and was able to belt it out as a praise for the day and a promise for the morrow (apologies to anyone around me who might have been deafened slightly…)
I’ve also found this song, which I’ve been listening to when I can –

Feeling Middle Aged…

Went to a Medieval Market and Fantasy Faire today in town – it’s on again tomorrow in the Ipswich Mall if you’re interested…
It was fun, and interesting – lots of lovely clothes and accessories (out of my price range) and a variety of medieval costumes/weapons/tools etc. I didn’t take too many photos – lots of people and too much to see – but here’s some!

Music, Music, Music!

Took the boys to the library today for the Ethno Roadshow, a multicultural celebration of music that’s been travelling round Australia. They got to hear different styles of music, sung in different languages, by Australians from different cultural backgrounds. Fun and uplifting, and Littlest Bean may have had a bit of a dance as well… it was hard not to tap your feet! That’s him up there, settling in to listen.
I’ve said before that we have a wonderful library – these sorts of events are just another reason that I’m glad we live so near to one of the best libraries. 🙂
