Today we did some simple experiments to check out the properties of water and surface tension –
1. Floating a piece of paper with a needle on top – when the paper sinks, the needle still floats…
2. Oil on water, food colouring through the oil layer into the water….
The boys pronounced it “Cool!” 😀
We went out on a mini nature walk this morning to collect leaves/feathers/bark etc, for fairy looms – I saw them on a blog that I’ve been checking out….(It’s on the March 14th entry – I’m thinking of trying out the geode eggs as well 😀 ) –

Here are the fairy looms we came up with – Littlest boy had trouble figuring out the weaving at first, but they both ended up with a lovely end product….
We decided to display them so we could all enjoy them 😀
I thought this photo looked ethereal….
…and we’ve been keeping an eye on the tadpoles… they’re still growing… they’re very lively (and hungry) now. You can see where their legs will sprout….
We found a dvd in the library to watch at lunch times, which uses the premise “If Marco Polo were alive today, where in the world would he go?”…. there are a few dvds; we watched the one about Niger.
I feel it’s important for the boys to learn they’re part of a larger world… but I always feel like jumping on a plane when I watch these things 😀 I don’t really like plane travel… it’s just a means to an end. Travelling through the desert on the back of a camel seems much more my style 😀
Here’s the first part….
… and here’s the fun part of the day 😀
Went for our weekly visit to Vanilla and Rose, had gorgeous (both in taste and look) food, and enjoyed the music and chat, surrounded by beautiful things. I always feel inspired there…
Here’s my hubby’s black forest cake and tea…
I had hot chocolate, with a lovely chocolate/lavender ganache tart (the boys shared another one between them)
Note the beautiful plate it’s served on…
And, because of the difficulties earlier, my sweet man made a detour on his way home this afternoon, and got me a heart – topped chocolate cupcake, and another choc/lavender tart for this evening 😀 Chocolate ALWAYS brightens things up!
To finish up… here’s last week’s mini cupcake, complete with bow, and tiny icing flower…
…by Susan Enan.
A song I have been enjoying the last couple of months… thought I’d share 😀
Just back from my first ARTTalk Philosophy Cafe, at Bon Laneway Cafe…. we were outside in the laneway, squashed in.. lots more people than I’d thought there would be…
Topic was Street Art vs Graffiti, and led to lots of interesting discussion. Still thinking….
Looking forward to next month’s cafe…
It was my birthday on the 4th (Friday)… I had a lovely day – went into town, wandered about, had iced chocolate, bought nice stuff….
I decided to photodocument the beautiful things I saw, just as they took my fancy…
This was the cafe I started at – Coreine very nicely gave me a birthday pomegranate macaron to have with my iced chocolate – yummy! They’d just had air conditioning put in, just before I turned up… this was a nice bit of wall/decor that caught my eye 😀
a pretty signpost…..
My table (at Deanne’s Coffee House), with my chai latte..
the sign says “Everybody should believe in something. I believe I’ll have another coffee.” Â I could go with that….
Pretty things at Trottie Becke’s
I thought this robot was very cute…. not something I’d buy, though. Also from Trottie Becke’s
Here’s the pretty things I bought..
The mug is prettier than it looks  – sort of pearlescent. The block in the front is a herb chopper – there’s a curved rocking blade in the draw underneath.
My angel of happiness…
and lastly – my new unicorn (although it’s actually second hand..) The lady behind the counter didn’t know what to say when I said it was for me… perhaps I should have ridden it out of the shop! 😀
I still haven’t decided on a name…
So – here’s my pictorial birthday – and also my first pictorial post… hope it works! 😀
