Good Morning Fridge!

And a happy bright morning to you! πŸ˜€
I don’t normally search the internet looking for fridges, but this one came across my path… I could see myself in this sort of kitchen.
It would probably help wake me up..

Sand

The sunburn has receded, and the photos were transferred to the computer without complaint, so here is the post that should have been yesterday’s….

We started off fairly early, so we could get on the beach before the worst of the sun… it was a good trip down. We felt like we had a bit of an escort part of the way…

We got to the beach, and met up with friends… the kids had a great time, even though the surf was a little bit variable… the beach was quite crowded on Saturday… this is the beach later on, at Surfers..

After lunch we walked along the esplanade to check out the sand sculptures. This was first place – called Calico Jack.
Not my favourite, but intricate. I’m not sure what the story is behind it.. the theme was “Pirates in Paradise”, so each entry had to depict that theme in one way or another.

I can’t remember what this one was called, and I only took one photo… it wasn’t till later that I realised that there were two maps carved on the right hand side (Africa and South America). I gather the cogs represent big corporations/technology, and how that impacts on the developing world – are we the pirates?

This is called “Quicksand”… music piracy affects us all..

I have no idea what this is called, or what it’s about. It’s just “Wildcard Entry”…

A couple of the sculptures had flat panels on the back, with intaglio images (where the image is cut into the background) I enjoyed these… I’m more of an intaglio person than a bas-relief person. This is a treasure map..

This one was probably my favourite. It’s on the back of one called “Captain Morgan at the Edge of the World”.

Crisp and clear…

Each entrant had 8 tonnes of sand to work with. They could only use sand and water, but the sand was brickies’ sand, which is different to the average beach sand. Each grain is more square and sticks together like building blocks, whereas the sand on the beach has rounder grains… that would explain why our sandcastles never look this good πŸ˜€
The sand is compacted into wooden forms, and entrants climb to the top and carve downwards, removing the wooden form in layers as they go.

There was also a large collaborative piece using 40 tonnes of sand. That was still being worked on while we were there.. it was more “Pirates of the Caribbean” Β than the others. Here’s some views of it..

There was a tent for the kids, where they could make their own creations. The sand appeared to be the brickies’ sand, so it stuck together well. They spent quite a while there…

All in all, it was a good day, despite the sun.. By the time we left, it was a bit quieter.. the way we like the coast πŸ˜€

Arthousecoop Again…

Just signed up for another couple of projects from the Arthouse co-op… Β the last one I did was last April, for the Fiction Project – here’s the link to my post back then –

https://1000fieldsofroses.wordpress.com/2011/04/28/done/

These new ones are free to enter… the first one is about writing a letter to my childhood home –

Letters to Home

The other is getting everyone who signed up to take a photo of a meal or snack that they’re having at the same time, and posting the photos in, where they’ll all be displayed together. By my reckoning, this means I’ll have to be up with a camera and snack at 3am in a couple of weeks….

The Meal

Anyone want to join me? πŸ˜€

The Artist Preaches

On Wednesdays we have a sort of home group in the afternoon, where friends come over, we talk, pray, spend time together and with God. Every week is different; every week is good…

Normally hubby has something to talk about, we open the Bible and discuss the topic of the day. Today he didn’t have anything… but that wasn’t a problem, as littlest bean decided to share with us what he had read in his morning devotions. He actually read us two readings, and both were just right… He often just hasΒ to read us a verse, and it always fits with whatever we’re talking about πŸ˜€ This afternoon he blessed us with God’s word for us today…

Later we were praying for one of our group…. littlest bean prayed, then suddenly ran off to his room, where he grabbed his sketch book and a pen. He diligently scribbled for a bit, then came up with this –

It’s a cup overflowing – very significant for the person being prayed for… it’s also a cocktail glass, so we figured there must be Spirit in there πŸ˜€

He then kept on drawing….

Trees bursting with fruit (also significant…) The first one has a lovely deep root system… the second is just about to get rained on…

We all got one of these at the end –
I love my little preacher boy! πŸ˜€

Baking Rainbows

Here’s how I made the biscuits from the post a few days back…

Basic Biscuit Recipe

Ingredients
Β½ cup sugar
Β½ cup butter
2 eggs
splash of vanilla essence
roughly 2 Β½ cups flour

Measurements are approximate (especially the flour). I just use my favourite cup, and go by ratios and the way the mix feels…

Cream the butter and sugar together. Beat the vanilla into the eggs, mix with the butter/sugar. Mix in the flour, a little at a time, till it’s not too firm/not too sticky

Normally you would then put teaspoon size balls of the mixture on a lined baking tray, then bake at 180 ℃ for roughly 10 minutes, or until firm and golden.

For rainbow biscuits – when you have made the raw mix, divide it into four portions (or as many colours as you would like). Colour each portion… I used liquid colours… I’ve heard gel colours are better and brighter, but haven’t tried them. The colours I used had a chart on the back, giving the number of drops needed for each colour – I needed to use a lot to get the brightness I wanted.

I made purple, teal, lime green and orange.

When you have all the colours, pinch a ball from each colour, press them together, and roll out into a snake – I tried various ways of combining to get the best result – go ahead and experiment! πŸ˜€
Roll into a coil, twisting as you go so that all the colours are visible –

Bake as above and –
Voila!

Enjoy! πŸ˜€

Beautiful Birthday Bash

… betwixt beautiful bosom buddies…

(and alliteration aplenty…)

Yesterday was a busy day. I went to a United Christian Women’s Conference Friday night/Saturday, met new friends, spent time with old, was inspired, and shared a wonderful feast. The vision of women uniting in Christ, of moving forward together, is one I’ve been hearing – it will be interesting to see where it leads πŸ˜€

In between the morning and the evening session, I was whisked off to spend time with another group of wonderful friends, to celebrate the birthday of one, and catch up face to face with everyone. We had some issues getting there (the GPS couldn’t cope with the road works. It kept recalculating) but it’s always worth the effort to get together… we talked for hours, and laughed (and laughed some more!) We all have different sadnesses in our lives, but they don’t seem so dark when you have friends to be real with πŸ˜€

Unfortunately I didn’t take as many photos as I have previously but here are the ones I took –

Finding the Candle App…

There it is! (and an absent friend on the other screen… a photo taken at the last gathering..)

Blowing out the candle!

As it was a special occasion, I wanted to make rainbow poop bikkies… I may even do a tutorial post πŸ˜€

Peace and sparkles! πŸ˜€
