This Day

Life is Good

It’s been one of those days… up.. down.. in between.
Sometimes a day that seems to have been going well gets a bombshell chucked into the middle of it – big, small.. doesn’t matter – and you have to decide what to do with it.

I can always look around, and remember just how blessed I am. There are niggles and prickles and pitfalls, but that doesn’t mean I have to focus on them.
I choose to look towards the big, beautiful, full of promise life that is mine.
And it is good. πŸ˜€

life is nothing without love

A Letter From Fred

A competition for songwriters received a letter from Fred, with the words that he’d written for his late wife. They’d been together for 75 years.
The holders of the competition decided to set the words to music, in honour of Fred, and his sweet Lorraine.

This is their song.

You can find it on iTunes, at this link

Half A Virtual Marathon

I’ve not been well for a while, but today I got the chance to start on a course of herbs/vitamins/minerals… should clear things up and start me on the road to wellness πŸ˜€

Just as well, too.
I recently signed up to do a virtual half marathon. What’s that, you ask?

Well, it’s in honour of the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and you get a cool running bib, and a Whovian medal at the end…

The money raised (entry fee) goes to help the Boston Marathon Victims Relief.
There are three categories –

1 mile kid’s race (US$10 entry fee)
5 mile race ($20)
Half marathon ($20)

The half marathon is just over 13 miles (or just over 21 kilometres) Thankfully, I don’t have to do it all at once – I can walk, and do it in stages – being virtual, I just check in with an update when I walk. I’ve figured out that our house is roughly 3.7 km from town, so that’s about six trips, or three times there and back. Now I’m going to be feeling better, should be a piece of cake. πŸ˜‰

If you want to join in, you can sign up online –

Leaving Toowong

I heard this song a couple of days ago.. a lovely, sad memorial song…
Here’s what the artist had to say about it –

“My Dad died at the beginning of 2011 which coincided with the biggest floods Brisbane has seen. This was something that loomed pretty large for me over the whole writing period of ‘Departures’ and I suppose a song like this was bound to come out. The lyric is talking about the place in Brisbane where I grew up. Toowong, a near city suburb that my Dad also spent his childhood in and ended up being buried in, along with my older brother, who I now happen to be older than. ” Bernard Fanning. Taken from the forthcoming new album ‘Departures’

Beautiful song… I loved the old childhood movie stuff as well. Have you ever watched someone else’s home movies, or looked through random old photos? I used to trawl through the junk shops, looking for treasures.. among then were often abandoned photos, of people that I’d never met.. I find them fascinating.
Aren’t we all so similar? It doesn’t matter what clothes we wear, what year we’re in, what we know, or say, or believe… we’re all the same, in so many ways. Living life.. squabbling with the siblings.. eating a picnic, or running along the beach. Smiling for the camera. Being human. We all live..love..laugh..or mourn.

Same..

(The video above doesn’t seem to exist anymore… I’ll leave it up in case it comes back (it illustrates the post). In the meantime, here’s the audio)

Things I Learned Today..

… that a glass jar, when dropped from roughly chest height, explodes quite spectacularly. And the miniscule shards scatter over an unbelievably large area. No cuts, though.

… that Apple products can be quite infuriating. Did you know that there is no way to update an Apple id for apps? If you have to change ids, you also have to delete any apps downloaded through another id (if you want to update them, anyway..)
On the plus side, I now have the capacity to upload a stack of other apps. Do you realise how many free Bibles, herbal medicine pharmacopoeias, and anatomy textbooks there are? It’s like Christmas in… well.. August! πŸ˜‰

Some days just need a big mug of hot chocolate and a good mystery to read while snuggled up in bed. Unfortunately, I still need to complete an essay (on herbs that can be useful to help overcome chemical addictions) It’s going OK. I’ve opened some books…

In the meantime, here’s..

Hope your day has been beautiful πŸ™‚
