The Artist Preaches

On Wednesdays we have a sort of home group in the afternoon, where friends come over, we talk, pray, spend time together and with God. Every week is different; every week is good…

Normally hubby has something to talk about, we open the Bible and discuss the topic of the day. Today he didn’t have anything… but that wasn’t a problem, as littlest bean decided to share with us what he had read in his morning devotions. He actually read us two readings, and both were just right… He often just hasΒ to read us a verse, and it always fits with whatever we’re talking about πŸ˜€ This afternoon he blessed us with God’s word for us today…

Later we were praying for one of our group…. littlest bean prayed, then suddenly ran off to his room, where he grabbed his sketch book and a pen. He diligently scribbled for a bit, then came up with this –

It’s a cup overflowing – very significant for the person being prayed for… it’s also a cocktail glass, so we figured there must be Spirit in there πŸ˜€

He then kept on drawing….

Trees bursting with fruit (also significant…) The first one has a lovely deep root system… the second is just about to get rained on…

We all got one of these at the end –
I love my little preacher boy! πŸ˜€

Baking Rainbows

Here’s how I made the biscuits from the post a few days back…

Basic Biscuit Recipe

Ingredients
Β½ cup sugar
Β½ cup butter
2 eggs
splash of vanilla essence
roughly 2 Β½ cups flour

Measurements are approximate (especially the flour). I just use my favourite cup, and go by ratios and the way the mix feels…

Cream the butter and sugar together. Beat the vanilla into the eggs, mix with the butter/sugar. Mix in the flour, a little at a time, till it’s not too firm/not too sticky

Normally you would then put teaspoon size balls of the mixture on a lined baking tray, then bake at 180 ℃ for roughly 10 minutes, or until firm and golden.

For rainbow biscuits – when you have made the raw mix, divide it into four portions (or as many colours as you would like). Colour each portion… I used liquid colours… I’ve heard gel colours are better and brighter, but haven’t tried them. The colours I used had a chart on the back, giving the number of drops needed for each colour – I needed to use a lot to get the brightness I wanted.

I made purple, teal, lime green and orange.

When you have all the colours, pinch a ball from each colour, press them together, and roll out into a snake – I tried various ways of combining to get the best result – go ahead and experiment! πŸ˜€
Roll into a coil, twisting as you go so that all the colours are visible –

Bake as above and –
Voila!

Enjoy! πŸ˜€

Beautiful Birthday Bash

… betwixt beautiful bosom buddies…

(and alliteration aplenty…)

Yesterday was a busy day. I went to a United Christian Women’s Conference Friday night/Saturday, met new friends, spent time with old, was inspired, and shared a wonderful feast. The vision of women uniting in Christ, of moving forward together, is one I’ve been hearing – it will be interesting to see where it leads πŸ˜€

In between the morning and the evening session, I was whisked off to spend time with another group of wonderful friends, to celebrate the birthday of one, and catch up face to face with everyone. We had some issues getting there (the GPS couldn’t cope with the road works. It kept recalculating) but it’s always worth the effort to get together… we talked for hours, and laughed (and laughed some more!) We all have different sadnesses in our lives, but they don’t seem so dark when you have friends to be real with πŸ˜€

Unfortunately I didn’t take as many photos as I have previously but here are the ones I took –

πŸ˜€

Finding the Candle App…

There it is! (and an absent friend on the other screen… a photo taken at the last gathering..)

Blowing out the candle!

As it was a special occasion, I wanted to make rainbow poop bikkies… I may even do a tutorial post πŸ˜€

Peace and sparkles! πŸ˜€

A City With Foundations

“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
– Hebrews 11:8-10

It’s encouraging to remember that this house is not our final home – that God is the final architect of my life, and that I can trust Him to steer me straight, even though I don’t know where I’m going, or often how to get there…. We didn’t know where we would settle when we came back to Australia, and He brought us to this city. That seems to have worked out pretty well, so far…

I don’t particularly want to spend the next few generations living in tents, though… πŸ˜€

Another verse I liked today –
“You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.” – Psalm 65:11

School Is Nearly Here…

I have finally ordered the books for this year, and they are on their way… This is the site we use for the basic curriculum –

Homeschooling Supplies

Go to the “Curriculum Guide” button up the top, and choose the grade you want. This is a Victorian site, so the grades are different to Queensland (If your child is Grade 3 in Queensland, they will be Grade 2 in Victoria, etc)
I will use these books for Maths/English, with a bit of Science and Social Studies.Everything else will be a bit more eclectic, and will probably be adjusted from time to time. I’m hoping to start a History timeline this year, starting from the beginning and moving through to the present day πŸ˜€ It will (hopefully) encompass art, music, philosophy etc for each time period, as well as the bare historical facts… We shall see how that goes…

My biggest boy is starting High School this year. That should be interesting..

I have been going through piles of papers, books and workbooks recently – because of a friend who works at a school, we have quite a lot of books πŸ˜€ This year I hope to be a bit more organised. I believe the boys have been learning all they need to (and more) but I’m terrible at documentation… I’m trying to sort things out properly this year! I’m quite excited… and also feeling as though my brain will explode.. Having so much reference material is a blessing, but at the moment, also a bit overwhelming….

This will be a good year, though πŸ˜€

Up

Came across this on another blog… this is such an affecting, gorgeous look at love and a long marriage, especially so for a kids’ movie. I sit there watching with a goofy grin and tears…

I don’t intentionally go out to find things on the internet that make me cry…
Honest….
