Persuasion

This morning we helped biggest boy with persuasive writing (one of his English units). He hadn’t quite understood the concept – his previous efforts involved giving the same opinion three different ways, with no attempt at persuasion…..

We talked about looking at both sides of an argument, and thinking fairly and deeply about each person’s opinion, then set him a test problem, and asked him to come up with another of his own…

The first problem – Should we eat roast chicken – seen from our perspective, as well as the chicken’s…. after weighing the pros and cons, he agreed with the chicken… After discussing it with us, so did we πŸ˜€

The second problem was one he was really passionate about – He was arguing that he should not have to do any more school work….

He thought hard about it… weighed the pros and cons…. put the argument together…..

… and ended up convincing himself that he needed to continue with school… πŸ˜€

It made our day!
